Communicating With Web Designers

Web design companies sometimes use some pretty cryptic language to explain what’s going on with your page. You may hear that they’re having a problem with the PHP sections of your site, or that your animations aren’t working correctly or that your navigation scheme needs to be changed. Before you even get started with a web page project, you should read up on some of the basic terminology. You should also be ready to keep an open line of communication with your developers at all times.

Designers need you to tell them when something works and when something doesn’t. Oftentimes, they’ll send you an email and ask you to look at your work in progress. They’ll need your feedback, in some cases, before they can continue the project. To make sure that they’re getting good information, you have to take the time to consider their questions, come up with a solid answer and basically give them clearance to continue on or ask them to make changes.

For designers, one of the most frustrating things in the world is being held up by a client who doesn’t communicate. Sometimes, these clients will tell the builders to just get the job done. This makes the builders cringe, because it means that there are going to be a lot of sections that the client will probably want redone and, of course, that extends their time on the project and forces them to put other clients on a waiting list when their jobs should be getting done. Don’t be this client. If you don’t have the time to deal with a web page project, put it off until a later date when you do. It’s the best thing you can do for yourself and for your builders.

If you’re just trying to get bids, you can communicate with companies via a web designer directory. Companies list themselves on these sites to attract new clients and it’s an easy way to ask a lot of different companies the same questions and to present them with the same project for a bid. Once the project is started, however, keep in touch. Your designers will appreciate your feedback and it will help them to get exactly the results you want. Without your input, they’ll be doing a lot of guesswork and you may not like the results of them engaging in that.
